1.The Ending

No Man an Island

It was white. One might have expected the ending of all things to be black and empty, yet this was not true. There was one tiny glowing life just barely holding on, and it was surrounded by white. One small point of consciousness that held tightly to its own existence. But then it let go, and for a moment saw. Saw, and understood.

Clarity achieved, reality collapsed and everything ended.

The Ending is possibly the briefest, most important part of the story. It all cycles back here at some point. It could refer to the time Ethan dies in the cemetery, at age 14. It could refer to the explosion of the Citadel, when he goes to heaven. It could be when he meets God after being rescued from hell. It could be the battle for the Outlands in the snow, when Alex dies. It all feeds back cyclically into this one paragraph.
